I Didn’t Expect This Much Bass from a 12-Inch Cube… SVS SB-2000 Pro Review
A well-enclosed subwoofer is a wonderful thing. SVS offers a wide variety of subwoofer designs, and the SVS SB-2000 Pro is part of its newest 2000 Pro Series. It features a 12-inch woofer and an amplifier rated at 550W RMS (1500W peak). Compact sealed subwoofers are usually cube-shaped, with a width almost equal to the woofer’s diameter. The SVS SB-2000 Pro measures 37 × 37 × 37 cm, making it easy to place in most rooms.
When a sealed subwoofer is equipped with a powerful amplifier and a high-quality driver, you can expect deep and clear bass, but only if the system is properly managed. To meet this challenge, the SB-2000 Pro is equipped with a powerful DSP that can be controlled via iOS or Android apps. It includes all the necessary settings to achieve optimal bass performance.

SVS SB-2000 Pro Features
The SB-2000 Pro is best suited for situations where you need a compact subwoofer capable of delivering deep and punchy bass. Since multiple subwoofers in a system usually provide noticeable benefits, this model’s small size and reasonable price make it a good choice for multi-sub setups as well.
Unpacking the SB-2000 Pro is easy thanks to its modest size. It weighs 17.5 kg, which indirectly reflects the quality of its construction, yet one person can install it without difficulty. SVS includes detailed installation and configuration instructions, which are very convenient. Even an inexperienced user should have no trouble setting it up.
The finishing quality of the SB-2000 Pro is very high. I was once impressed by the piano-black finish of a JL Audio subwoofer, and while looking at my reflection in the glossy surface of this SVS model, I must admit it is no worse. The cabinet now features rounded edges and, importantly, a fabric grille that looks more refined than the metal mesh grilles previously used by SVS.

The SB-2000 Pro builds upon the original SB-2000 with a mobile-controlled DSP, a fabric grille, a new 12-inch woofer, and a 10% more powerful amplifier. The result is a subwoofer capable of reproducing deep low frequencies required for home theater (and certain music genres), while maintaining the density and precision needed for accurate musical reproduction. Deep and detailed bass is essential if you want faithful reproduction of both music and movies.
Listening
No matter how impressive a subwoofer’s specifications look on paper, they only indicate its potential. For example, if you don’t usually listen at very high volumes, extreme power output may not be necessary. Instead, you need a subwoofer that can deliver deep, rich bass even at lower listening levels.
I powered the SB-2000 Pro with a Denon AVR-X8500H, which features Audyssey XT32 automatic calibration, including bass management. I set the crossover to 80Hz and integrated the sub into my 5.1.2 home theater system. Overall, the subwoofer was very easy to set up and performed exactly as expected from a specialist manufacturer. Perhaps for this reason, SVS does not emphasize excessive technical parameters, and in my opinion, that approach is justified.
My regular system (the one I use when I’m not reviewing equipment) includes three stacked subwoofers, each using dual opposing 12-inch drivers, roughly equivalent to six SB-2000 Pros. What can a single 12-inch sealed subwoofer do against such “artillery”? Quite a lot, as it turns out. When properly calibrated, the SB-2000 Pro can reproduce clear, dense, and deep bass, though naturally not at the same maximum volume level. The laws of physics still apply.
The sound of a subwoofer in a room is often reinforced at the lowest frequencies due to “room gain” or resonance. Depending on your room size and subwoofer placement, you may experience significant low-frequency amplification. The SVS control app includes features to compensate for this effect. Using the built-in equalizer and DSP makes precise tuning much easier, especially when adjustments are made from the main listening position. Compared to models without such features, the SB-2000 Pro is much easier to integrate into a room.
Listening tests confirmed that the SB-2000 Pro performs in the best traditions of SVS, delivering punchy and accurate bass. It complemented music, movies, TV shows, and video games naturally and effectively. The main considerations for potential buyers will be room size and required peak volume levels. In a medium-sized room (not extremely large), and without the need for true cinema reference levels, this subwoofer is more than sufficient. If more headroom is needed later, adding a second SB-2000 Pro is often more practical than purchasing a larger, harder-to-place model.
During testing, I watched films such as The Hunt for Red October, Ready Player One, Mortal Kombat Legends, and Mad Max: Fury Road, all rich in dynamic special effects. I also listened to a wide range of music genres. The SVS subwoofer reproduced electronic music with powerful infrabass particularly well. The DSP does not introduce audible distortion or limit performance; instead, it allows more efficient use of the driver and amplifier combination.
Since I mentioned multi-sub setups earlier, it’s worth expanding on that topic. Using multiple subwoofers is an effective way to improve bass response, enhance overall sound quality, and reduce distortion. Proper placement can also help minimize room resonances. Interestingly, stacking subwoofers vertically does not necessarily require more floor space than a single large unit.
Stacking subwoofers is not a new concept; it has long been used in high-end stereo and home theater systems. If you need substantial, deep bass in a large room, it may make more sense to use multiple SB-2000 Pros rather than a single larger model like the JL Audio E112, especially considering the flexibility and DSP control offered here. Either way, a well-configured sealed subwoofer system can sound both powerful and precise, and the SB-2000 Pro is an excellent example of that balance.
Conclusion
Most people who watch movies and listen to music in their living room need one high-quality subwoofer to complete their system, one capable of reproducing the lowest octaves that main speakers cannot reach, while remaining relatively unobtrusive.
If that is what you are looking for, the SVS SB-2000 Pro is a strong choice. SVS is a leading brand in the subwoofer market, and its products are generally reliable, user-friendly, and sonically impressive. In terms of functionality, it is difficult to find similar DSP capabilities in this price range. Here, the “Pro” designation is not just marketing.
When paired with a measurement microphone, the SB-2000 Pro can be tuned with near-professional precision. Considering its performance, features, and compact size, it represents excellent value.
