Panasonic Has a New £120 Hi-Fi System, But This 180-Watt Model Is the One That Caught My Eye
Panasonic has introduced two new compact Hi-Fi systems, the SC-PMX112 and SC-PM302, aimed at listeners who want a traditional music system without taking up too much space. While both models offer CD playback, Bluetooth, radio, and USB connectivity, Panasonic has clearly positioned them at different ends of the market.
The Panasonic SC-PMX112 is the more powerful and feature-packed of the two. It uses a 180-watt amplifier and comes with 13-cm full-range speakers paired with dedicated tweeters. The speakers also feature bass-reflex ports, while five equalizer modes allow users to adjust the sound to their preference.
Panasonic says the system is designed to deliver clear vocals, detailed highs, and pronounced bass, making it the more interesting option for listeners who want a compact system capable of filling a larger room.
The SC-PMX112 also offers a surprisingly comprehensive range of connectivity. It supports dual-band Wi-Fi, Spotify Connect, and internet radio, alongside Bluetooth, DAB+, and FM radio. There is also a CD player and USB port for playing music files.

For connecting other equipment, Panasonic has included optical and 3.5mm line-in inputs. The system also provides both headphone and subwoofer outputs, giving owners more flexibility if they eventually want to expand the setup.
The Panasonic SC-PM302 Takes a Simpler Approach
The Panasonic SC-PM302 is aimed at listeners who don’t need the extra power or connectivity of the SC-PMX112. It produces 60 watts RMS and uses 10-cm full-range speakers.
Despite its lower price, the SC-PM302 still covers the essentials, with CD, USB, Bluetooth, DAB+, and FM support. It also includes optical and line-level inputs for connecting external sources.
There are some compromises, however. Unlike the SC-PMX112, the SC-PM302 doesn’t include headphone or subwoofer outputs.
Both systems use wooden speaker enclosures and come with remote controls, keeping the traditional compact Hi-Fi system design intact while offering modern wireless connectivity.
Panasonic says sales of both models are scheduled to begin this month. The SC-PMX112 is priced at £270, while the more affordable SC-PM302 costs £120.
For listeners who want a compact system with considerably more power and expansion options, the SC-PMX112 looks like the more capable choice. The SC-PM302, meanwhile, could make more sense for anyone looking for an inexpensive all-in-one Hi-Fi system without paying for features they don’t need.
