Why announced that it will no longer produce Blu-ray players?
LG has announced that it will stop producing Blu-ray players, although with the caveat that production may be resumed if demand grows. In particular, the UHD Blu-ray players UBK80 and UBK90 were “cut”. They will continue to be available on the market until the warehouse stocks currently available in the US and Europe are exhausted.
Moreover, the players in question entered the market back in 2018. Let us recall that it was then that Oppo shocked many by abandoning its seemingly quite successful models of the same class. A similar decision, but a year later, was made by Samsung. Sony announced the termination of its core production.

It’s safe to say that LG came to the same conclusion at the same time — there has been no information about the development of new UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray players from LG since 2018. This time, player sales have been falling since the peak of 2017, although the UHD Blu-ray format debuted a year earlier. However, it’s too early to celebrate the funeral of this branch of the laser disc industry for example, Sony and Microsoft are still adding disc drives to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X gaming consoles, making them like multifunctional media players.
