Sigma MAAT Zenith Is a 104dB Horn Loudspeaker That Could Cost $275,000
Italian loudspeaker manufacturer Sigma Acoustics is expanding its MAAT range with two new floorstanding speakers, the MAAT Zenith and the more compact MAAT XS. At the top of the new lineup sits the MAAT Zenith, an ambitious six-way horn-loaded design featuring Japanese GOTO drivers, a pair of 15-inch bass units and a claimed sensitivity of 104dB.
The MAAT Zenith is being positioned as the pinnacle of the company’s loudspeaker collection. Produced in a limited series and handcrafted in Italy, the flagship combines horn and waveguide loading with a collection of specialist drivers designed to cover different portions of the audio spectrum.
It is also an imposing piece of hi-fi engineering. Each speaker weighs approximately 380kg, making the Zenith considerably larger and heavier than most conventional floorstanding loudspeakers.
Sigma MAAT Zenith Uses Japanese GOTO Drivers and Dual 15-Inch Bass Units
The MAAT Zenith features a six-way configuration built around drivers from Japanese manufacturer GOTO. Its high-frequency section includes the GOTO SG-06 supertweeter and SG-3880Ti tweeter, while the SG-5880Ti handles midrange frequencies. An SG-20WR driver takes care of the upper bass.
The $211,000 Speaker That Left Audiophiles Speechless: Beolab 90 at AXPONA
For lower frequencies, Sigma Acoustics has incorporated a 15-inch high-sensitivity woofer alongside a specially developed 15-inch bass horn. This combination is designed to deliver the low-frequency extension expected from such a large horn-based loudspeaker.
The published specifications are particularly ambitious. Sigma Acoustics lists sensitivity at 104dB, with a frequency response extending from 16Hz to 50kHz. Impedance is rated at 8 ohms, with a minimum of 5.3 ohms.
That high sensitivity is especially interesting for enthusiasts who prefer low-powered amplification, including single-ended and other valve amplifier designs. However, actual amplifier matching will also depend on the speaker’s crossover design and intended configuration.
MAAT XS Brings the Concept to a More Compact Floorstanding Speaker
Alongside the flagship, Sigma Acoustics is introducing the MAAT XS, a smaller and more manageable addition to the family.
The XS is intended to bring the MAAT design philosophy into a more compact loudspeaker, although its complete specifications and pricing have not been confirmed in the initial announcement. It will give buyers an alternative to the enormous Zenith without requiring the same physical space.
Sigma MAAT Zenith Price and Availability
Sigma Acoustics has not officially confirmed the MAAT Zenith’s price. However, some reports suggest that the flagship could cost approximately $275,000, placing it firmly in the ultra-high-end loudspeaker market.
The Zenith is described as a limited-production model, while further details about availability and the MAAT XS are still awaited.
With its Japanese GOTO drivers, 104dB sensitivity, horn-loaded bass system and extraordinary physical dimensions, the MAAT Zenith is certainly an ambitious addition to the world of high-end audio. Its eventual price and availability will determine just how exclusive this Italian loudspeaker becomes.
