Two Kalista Network Players Are Now Roon-Ready, And That Changes How You Can Use Them
Métronome Technologie has announced that two of its Kalista network players, the DreamPlay S and DreamPlay SC, have received Roon Ready certification. The update gives both high-end digital sources direct integration with the Roon ecosystem, allowing them to be used as network audio zones for music stored locally or streamed from compatible online services.
For owners of the two Kalista models, the certification means they can now be discovered directly on the network by Roon and selected as playback devices from within the Roon interface.
What Roon Ready Means for the Kalista DreamPlay
Roon Ready certification confirms support for RAAT (Roon Advanced Audio Transport), Roon Labs’ network audio protocol. Once a compatible device is connected to the same network and activated, Roon can automatically detect it and make it available as a playback zone.
The platform also makes it possible to use multiple Roon Ready devices together in a multi-room system, with synchronized music playback across different zones.

This is particularly useful for owners with more than one network audio system, since Roon can provide a central interface for controlling music throughout the home.
The DreamPlay S and DreamPlay SC Still Work Differently
The new certification doesn’t change the fundamental architecture of either Kalista model.
The DreamPlay S remains a dedicated network transport, meaning it needs an external DAC to convert its digital signal into analog audio.
The DreamPlay SC, on the other hand, includes a built-in digital-to-analog converter, allowing it to function as a more complete and standalone digital source.
So while both models now benefit from Roon integration, they continue to serve different roles in a high-end audio system.
You’ll Still Need a Roon Subscription
Roon Ready certification doesn’t provide access to Roon itself. Owners will need a separate Roon license to use the platform, along with Roon Server, which manages the music library, handles metadata, and sends audio streams to compatible network devices.
Magnetar UDP800 Media Player Review
Both the DreamPlay S and DreamPlay SC are already listed as Roon Ready on Kalista’s official product pages, giving existing owners access to the new integration without changing the basic architecture of their systems.
For Kalista owners who already use Roon, this is a useful upgrade. The hardware remains essentially the same, but the two network players now fit much more naturally into a Roon-based multi-room setup.
