The French company Métronome Technologie unveiled the Métronome DSC mini DAC at Munich’s High End 2024 exhibition. Where Switching allows you to use it as a completely independent device, as part of almost any setup, but the design – dimensions 250 x 70 x 250 mm (which did not prevent the new product from weighing almost 5 kg) and, most importantly, almost indistinguishable appearance, make this device is an ideal addition to the Métronome DSS2 network player-streamer.
The similarities are added by a 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, displaying signal parameters and device status. There are buttons on the front panel for control. Switching is optical and coaxial S/PDIF, USB, and AES/EBU, and the manufacturer recommends using I2S.
S/PDIF operates to the maximum of its specifications: with resolutions up to 32-bit/192 kHz PCM, DSD64, and DoP (DSD over PCM). AES/EBU supports PCM up to 32 bits and 384 kHz and DSD up to DSD128. I2S provides PCM processing at the same resolution, but DSD256. Finally, 32bit 384kHz and DSD512 are available via the USB port. Analog output signals can be obtained in balanced and unbalanced versions from a pair of XLR or RCA connectors.
